Cindy Housner – Executive Director and Founder

Cindy has spent her career expanding sports opportunities for individuals with physical or visual disabilities. She has coached internationally and she is an active speaker and strong advocate for inclusion in school athletics.  Cindy holds a Bachelors degree in Therapeutic Recreation and Adaptive PE and a Masters in Exceptional Education.

Tom Daily – Program Director

Tom has served GLASA as a coach and program director since 2007. He is responsible for facilitating GLASA’s ability awareness school presentations and he also maintains GLASA’s extensive inventory of adaptive equipment. In addition to his professional skills, Tom also plays wheelchair basketball and sled hockey.

Cherie Hrusovsky Development Director 

Cherie joined GLASA in 2007 as Office Manager.  She quickly moved into the Development Director role where she cultivates relationships with corporations, sponsors and donors.  Cherie manages all of our special events and helps facilitate GLASA’s marketing and social media efforts.

Micaela VenusProgram Director and Volunteer Coordinator

Micaela began her GLASA career as the Volunteer Coordinator in 2015 and took on the additional responsibilities of Program Director in April 2017.  Micaela holds a degree in Recreational Therapy from the University of Wisconsin at La Crosse and is a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist.

Christine Kizawa Grant Writer

Christine joined GLASA in 2020 and holds a BA in English and American Literature as well as a JD from Northwestern University.  In her short time at GLASA, her favorite memory was listening in on calls to veteran athletes to gather quotes about what GLASA meant to them. “Their responses were really heart-warming and made me glad to be working at GLASA.”  Christine spends her time away from work taking long walks with her husband, baking and learning new recipes with her two boys and cheering for the English Premier League.

Aileen Pecora Accountant

Shannon Hellen Office Manager and Asst. to the Executive Director

Shannon has been with GLASA since 2015 after moving to Illinois from sunny Atlanta, Georgia.  Prior to joining GLASA, she worked as a Recruiting Manager for a large non-profit in Memphis, TN and then spent many years as a stay-at-home mom.  Shannon holds a BS in International Marketing with a minor in Japanese language from the University of Alabama. A fun fact about Shannon is that she has visited 21 major league baseball parks, adding a new one each summer with her two sons and husband.

Flo Cheek Program Assistant

Flo was GLASA’s first volunteer starting  in 1996! She considers herself a “Jill of all Trades” doing whatever is necessary to get the job done.  Flo also volunteers for Meals on Wheels and Spay and Stay in her spare time.  When asked about her favorite thing about working at GLASA, Flo said, “Working with so many wonderful people and all of the different kinds of things we do like the Great Lakes Games, Twilight 5K, etc.”

GLASA is also supported by many highly skilled coaches who have sport experience and certifications from: The National Council for Therapeutic Recreation,  National Association for Sport and Physical Education- Adapted Physical Education, USA Track and Field, US Golf Association, USA Hockey, USA Swimming, USA Judo, US Weightlifting, the National Wheelchair Basketball Association, the United States Tennis Association, and Safe Sport.
